July 21, 2017

A new study by a group of Yale researchers found that reducing hospital readmission rates for three common medical conditions – heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia – did not negatively impact mortality rates. The paper, “Association of Changing Hospital Readmission Rates With Mortality Rates After Hospital Discharge” was published July 18 in JAMA.

The lead author is Kumar Dharmarajan, M.D.  The other authors on the study are Yongfei Wang, Zhenqui Lin, Sharon-Lise Normand, Joseph Ross, Leora Horwitz, Nihar Desai, Lisa Suter, Elizabeth Drye, Susannah Bernheim, and Harlan Krumholz.
