Irwin Birnbaum was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Yale University’s School of Medicine from July 1, 1997 until June 30, 2003. As COO, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Medical School. He then served as a Senior Advisor to the Dean until his retirement on June 30, 2005. Since then, Mr. Birnbaum has served as an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) of Medicine and Senior Advisor to the Program. Prior to coming to Yale, Mr. Birnbaum practiced Health Care Law as a partner in the law firm of Proskauer Rose LLP for 11 years (1986-1997), and for 23 years (1963-1986) he was at Montefiore Medical Center where he was the Chief Financial Officer.
